PRIMARY MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS/DIAGNOSES OF COLLEGE STUDENTS

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” Radio Show, on 1/26/18 on WILS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about PRIMARY MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS/DIAGNOSES OF COLLEGE STUDENTS.This is a topic always timely everywhere but particularly so in our listening audience with a mega-university bayan escort mersin like Michigan State University, WMU-Cooley Law School, and Lansing Community College. College student problems impact many of us directly or indirectly in some form in our families, social relationships, and work situations. The most commonly diagnosed disorders are Depression, Anxiety, Suicide, Eating Disorders, and Addiction. A person with AD/HD can enhance their probabilities of having any of these conditions as well as others. The following statistics from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) are surprising and troubling: 1.) One in four students have a diagnosable illness. 2.) 40% do not seek help. 3.) 80% feel overwhelmed by their responsibilities. 4.) 50% have become so anxious that they struggled in school. Awareness of these statistics will hopefully allow students to more readily seek support as well as their peers, friends, and family members offering them support and understanding. In a rapidly changing world, planning for the future unknown ups and downs of life can be very difficult for college students and lead to various emotional difficulties.
